MSN says IE top threat of 2007
To most webmasters and developers this is old news, but the new part is that now MSN is posting it on their OWN site. Yes, MSN says Internet Explorer is one of the top three biggest security threats of 2007.
Screenshot and story found by Search Engine Journal.
Internet Explorer heads the list of top Internet security attack targets in the most recent joint report of the FBI and security organization SANS Institute. One reason: As the most widely used browser, IE provides the biggest payoff for malicious hackers who set out to exploit its flaws.
The biggest problem with IE is its reliance on Microsoft’s ActiveX technology, which allows Web sites to run executable programs on your PC via your browser. Security patches and upgrades, including Windows XP’s Service Pack 2 and the recently released IE 7, make ActiveX safer, but the inevitable flaws that allow malware to circumvent those security measures–combined with the reality that we computer users are often a credulous lot–make ActiveX a risk not worth taking. Happily, with very few exceptions (such as Microsoft’s Windows Update site), you can browse the Internet effectively without ActiveX.
How long will it be before the MSN page gets edited?
Some of you are going to dislike this post, but I just have to let it out. I’m sick and tired of this Anna Nicole Smith story. Fox News… give me my news back. Please?
For the last two days EVERY cable news network has been playing HOUR after HOUR of Anna Nicole Smith headlines. Her death last week was indeed interesting, but only for a few minutes. And it is tragic that her daughter will have to grow up without a mother. The whole thing was very unfortunate, but that’s life. If you think the story is sad, then what about the other people who passed away in that time period? Families lost children and parents due to drunk driving, murder, accidents, etc. It happens virtually every minute of every day. So why is this story so important? Continue Reading

Last week I dipped in to the Silver Legacy Casino for a quick meeting with Chuck Muth and I was surprised to see that Wifi internet access in one of Reno’s most prominent Casino’s is also Reno’s most EXPENSIVE internet access.

Are you kidding me? $50.00 for a week of WiFi??? This isn’t satellite data or anything. No, this is plain old, most of the time FREE, WiFi! I thought that most businesses and hotels had long ago figured out the benefits of having free WiFi access, but I guess I was wrong. So much for that.
Now I’m in Carson City, Nevada getting ready for a long day of sitting through committee’s and meetings at the Nevada Legislature, and I’m happy to see that at least they’ve figured out how simple it is to offer such a great attraction.
This is internet folks! It should be a part of your marketing plan, not a part of your revenue plan.
