Illinois GovernmentAccording to a story in today’s online version of the Chicago Sun-Times, Chicagoans don’t necessarily agree with Illinois Government.

The Sun Times piece, titled “A year in the hoods“, paints a picture that is certainly nothing shy of a slap in the face to our founding fathers. The first half of the piece talks of citizens having to constantly fight with government over corrupt moves for money and power.

From money hungry Aldermen looking to “condemn” perfectly good buildings in order to legally steal the property and sell it to wealthy condo developers, to the Chicago mayor calling citizens “racists” for not supporting a children’s museum, Illinois has a plethora of corrupt politicians with little interest in doing what is right for the public and full intent on power grabs.

But Chicagoans are a breed who, when pushed, have no problem pushing back. Continue Reading

I just snapped this clip from my 33rd floor office here in Chicago. It actually started snowing a LOT harder a couple minutes after I got the video uploaded.

I can’t express how much I’ve needed news of a new and improved traffic statistics provider. Statcounter is, well, it’s Statcounter. Not much too it except that the 100 visits you get to see are some what in real time. Sitemeter is untrustworthy, and a system that I’ve never felt comfortable using.

Google Analytics is decent, but it’s a little complex for my basic needs and doesn’t operate in real time.

Clicky Web AnalyticsUntil now there hasn’t been any other options. Thanks to Clicky, we now have something fresh on the table.

Clicky calls itself “web analytics 2.0″, and I for one find it a very fitting label. Compared to the other stat providers, Clicky offers far more tools and goodies.

Basic Features on Free Accounts
-Customizable dashboard
-Clean interface
-Visitor details
-Track custom data
-API (Application Program Interface)
-TagClouds
-Data export
-Track outbound links
-Track file downloads
-Stats via RSS
-Real time stats
-FeedBurner integration
-Google Maps integration
-IP Tagging
-IP Filtering
-Works with visitors who have JavaScript disabled
-Secure web site support (SSL/HTTPS)
-Full dynamic referer tracking
-Public statistics
-Affiliate system

If you’re a Wordpress widget fan, you’ll be happy to know that Clicky also provides Wordpress widgets ready to lock and load. For the code junkies like myself, it’s a simple process of dropping the code snippet into your footer file and you’re good to go.

In fact, I had real time data coming in just two minutes after installing the code.

Bloggers looking for a good stat provider will definitely want to give Clicky a try. You won’t regret it.

After posting a screenshot and image of my current Ubuntu desktop wallpaper last night I started kicking around the idea of creating a huge post for the Ubuntu Wallpaper images I’ve collected over the past few months.

This post is going to be chopped up in to a few different sections because I have more than 40 high quality Ubuntu Wallpapers and I can’t get them all in to the main post without slowing everything down. So, what I’ll do is divide it into a couple different categories. I’ve posted full size versions of all wallpapers seen here. Just click the link to the full version to get the full size image.

-Ubuntu Blue
This is a collection of Ubuntu Wallpaper with a blue color scheme. I know the original Ubuntu brown is probably still the most popular, but a lot of us like blue so I decided to put together a collection of smooth blue designs. Click here to view them all. Continue Reading
