I’ve been in Chicago for about two and a half months now. It’s been a great ten weeks and I’ve loved every minute of it. But every now and then I miss two things.
1) Nevada
2) Blogging Nevada Politics
Nevada is a beautiful state. Up north (Reno) where I lived you had the best of both worlds as far as weather is concerned. Snowy winters that didn’t get too cold, and hot but dry summers that are perfect in every way.
You also have a plethora of ski resorts surrounding Lake Tahoe, which is just a few miles away, and the “not so liberal” part of California… Sacramento, is a few hours drive to the west.
Then you have the simplistic political landscape of Nevada. Many Nevadans might not see it as simplistic as I do, but I would recommend they try spending a few months in Chicago Illinois for a bit of persuasion. Trust me, the persuasion comes in large doses and is easy to digest.
Most legislators in Nevada are easy to get a hold of. Heck, as a blogger I had state Senators calling me! I remember walking through the halls of the state Legislature and popping in to offices at my convenience. You know, as if the politicians actually work for the tax payer sort of thing…
And when the center right blogs in Nevada worked together, amazing things happened. It was a lot of fun, and so easy to play an intricate part of the process. One thing is for sure now… living in and blogging Nevada will be MUCH easier after living in and blogging Illinois.
Which brings me to the point of this post. Today I started missing Nevada and all the good times we Silver State Bloggers had. I think we took it for granted the role we played and how easy it was to make a difference.
With this in mind, and knowing that my current employment requires that I go out into each individual state to organize, train, and mobilize bloggers, I would like to say to Nevada bloggers… you’ve got it made. And believe it or not, you’ve got an enormous amount of influence in the Silver State. You may not realize it, but it’s there.
All you have to do is embrace it.

Agreed Eric. I am seeing rising search results for Nevada state politicians we wrote about. It is a winter wonderland here in Northern Nevada now.
Great to hear you miss your home state of Nevada! The blanket of snow we received last night was so silent and serene this morning that it made walking out the door seem like a crime of invasion! The mountains echo the marvelous beauty of this great state when they are snow covered. No matter how much snow we get (and it has been a lot this year), the sun always makes it’s appearance at some point and time during the day which just adds to the glory of it all! I love my state!
