Libertarian Party Convention @ Denver
I’m strongly considering a trip to Denver in May for the Libertarian Party Convention. It would be my first LP event, and one that I’m only excited about now that I know Bob Barr is seriously considering a run for President.
Floor/Meal Speakers include the following:
Earl Allen – Libertarian activist, Advanced Toastmaster, world traveler.
Doug Anderson – First elected Libertarian in Colorado (1987), current Lakewood, CO city councilman.
Bob Barr – Former Georgia Congressman (R) – now Lifetime Member of National LP, current LNC Region 4 Representative, MPP lobbyist and more.
Judge Susan Bell – Elected Libertarian Judge in Indiana who swore in other LP office holders.
Neal Boortz – daily morning talk show host with nationwide syndication.
Michael Cloud - Libertarian campaign manager, fundraiser, author and speaker.
Mike Ferguson – Libertarian activist, campaign manager and office holder.
Anthony Gregory – writer, columnist, and rock musician who works with the Independent Institute and as an advisor for the Future of Freedom Foundation.
David Harsanyi – Denver Post staff editorialist/columnist, talk show guest and author.
Desiree Hickson – Former CO LP Lt. Governor candidate, military wife and serious blogger.
Joe Johnson – Colorado activist and elected Frederick town Trustee Board member.
Dr. Gary Michael – Libertarian speaker and author known by many as the “Talk Doc”.
Reggie Rivers – formal NFL player, columnist, talk show host and sportscaster.
Looks like a pretty decent list. There are many more speakers listed on the official line up page, and the schedule looks rather enticing as well.
And finally, do yourself a favor and check out Bob Barr while you’re at it.

Eric Dondero Says:
Bob Barr will make a fine Libertarian Party Presidential candidate, perhaps the best ever, even eclipsing Ed Clark’s high water mark of nearly 1 million votes (1.1%) in 1980.
Problem is the Party is in the grips of leftwing Anti-War Libertarians (many outright Anarchists), thes days. Most of the Pro-Defense wing has left for the GOP into the Republican Liberty Caucus, Club for Growth, ect…
Barr will get a substantial vote among just the hardcore Libertarian set - base of about 500,000.
But if he hopes to increase that into the millions, he’ll need to walk a fine line on foreign policy, careful not to run away Pro-Defense libertarians who might be inclined to vote for him.
Just today we learn of yet another report about to be released showing how the Surge in Iraq has been a stunning success since September.
If Barr takes the Ron Paul non-interventionist/pacifist line and claims that the War is a “failure” he’ll end up looking foolish and run off a great many potential libertarian Republican supporters.
